they blink at the reasoning, though the blink is then directed at the creatures that jump out in an attempt to frighten the duo. shigure doesn't get startled by much, and instead, seems almost impressed a weepinbell decided to take residence here of all places. can't blame it though. even pokemon can't pick and choose their homes. however, no matter how many kudos they can give the little dual grass-poison type, it's still not something he'd interested in carrying around, no matter how much of a good point velvet makes. shigure likes making things easier for people, but... a little rummaging around in his bag would reveal that maybe shigure under packed. juuuust maybe. [break][break]

"well. true. 'cept i've only got so many pokeballs so..." they step back to give velvet ample room, hands up as if to say after you. despite it, they do stare the weepinbell down, chin slightly up. don't want it thinking shigure's a coward or anything, after all.[break][break]

"guess we're going until we run out then?" he watches as velvet's pokeball dings as a signal for success, his head nodding in approval. at least someone was finding something they wanted. if he had to be honest, though it'd be useful to have a larger selection for his team (as well as stronger pokemon in general), there wasn't any he actively wanted. if anything, a lot of his pokemon tended to just... end up with him. [break][break]

still, they came out to the outskirts with a purpose, so he supposes the least he can do is showcase a little more interest. it wouldn't surprise him if he ended up walking out empty handed though. [break][break]

just as the thought enters shigure's mind, a bubble bursts through one of the alleyways, garbage of all kind being sent into the streets. an arm is raised to block any shrapnel, though it's quick to move for his palms to cover his ears with the upcoming metal sound. the culprits make their appearance soon enough, a dragalge and bisharp locked in a heated battle. did one wander into one's territory? well, it didn't matter. [break][break]

"if we're trying to take care of stuff here..." he debates on which one he should take care of first, though with bisharps often being accompanied by pawniards, it'd probably be best to send it out of commission. "... i'll take care of the bisharp. do whatever you want with the dragalge, i guess," they say to velvet, pokeball expanding and tossed to the air to reveal his pancham. luckily he had a serious type advantage, and with bisharp already being weakened? should be easy enough. he commands his pancham to dodge the oncoming acid, urging pancham to focus on the bisharp with a arm thrust. [break][break]

the bisharp looks at its two opponents in alarm, head raising to the sky. with a click of their tongue, shigure calls for another arm thrust, not wanting to give it the chance to call for back up. "finish it up," they call, pancham grabbing the bisharp's leg and sending it flying with a vital throw. deeming it weakened enough, they hurriedly throw out a pokeball in hopes of capture. thinking about it now, wouldn't the thing try to attack him once its feeling well enough later? shigure noticeably sighs, eyes closing with a slump. another long bridge to cross. great. wonderful. amazing. life's stellar, isn't it? [break][break]

behind their face mask, shigure's lips press into a thin line at the usage of the nickname. not like they'd argue against it though, and like any other situation, they simply sigh and follow behind. his new bisharp settles down after a little wiggling, probably too exhausted to force its way out of its new confinement. ah. relaxation. for the time being.[break][break]

velvet knew how to work shigure though. they really thought they'd walk out of here empty handed, but with his inherent kindness... he has to wonder just how many troublemakers he's going to add to his already mischievous team. the thought seems to tire them out, though the rustling nearby catches their attention soon enough. [break][break]

"... wonder what this'll be now." they say it so monotonously, it's clear they're expecting another fight to break out. lo and behold, a stunky appears. it stares at the duo, shigure meeting its gaze blankly. it blinks at the pancham at his legs, watches at how said pancham punches his fist to his other paw, lets out a toot and scurries away. [break][break]

talk about anticlimactic. [break][break]

"... okay then."

when the stunky showed up again, shigure’s eyes narrowed, head shaking in confusion. why’d it come back? but then velvet hits it a few times and ah. they really are getting lucky today. [break][break]

“i wonder how lucky we can get before something happens.” velvet can’t see it, but the smile they wear is hollow, golden eyes staring far, far into the distance. because knowing shigure, it’s bound to happen. the stars do not align for them and gods don’t have mercy on them too often. shigure’s daily life is perpetually in a cycle of mild inconveniences and comical disasters. [break][break]

and as if on cue, caws he’s grown familiar with fill the air. a honchkrow and its flock settles on a nearby building. watching… waiting… waiting for what?[break][break]

“... well.” did he accidentally speak something into existence? they look at velvet, and beneath their mask their lips part, only to clamp shut when hurried footsteps echo around them. shigure’s chest rises and falls with a deep sigh. the tail of a scrafty peeks out from an alleyway.[break][break]

“should… probably take care of that before it gets its crew, huh?”
